Wetting the pants or accidental wetting is most often referred to as “daytime accidental wetting”. The medical term for it is Diurnal Enuresis. Unlike the nighttime or nocturnal bed wetting, diurnal accidental wetting happens when the person is awake and conscious about what is happening to his bladder.
Sometimes, the wetting accidents are considered a normal part of development. This is when active children are too engrossed in their play that they neglect to take care of their physical need to regularly empty their bladder, until the bladder exerts itself.
Young children are supposed to urinate about five to seven times a day. But some of them just go only about two to three times in one day. They forget to go to the bathroom upon waking up, which is the normal routine of every healthy human. And these children seemed in a hurry to do something else that when they do go to the bathroom, they don’t completely empty their bladders.
Wetting accidents are sure to happen when children young attempt to hold in their urine. An adult can observe this when the child suddenly stands very still. The child probably believes that by staying completely still he can prevent himself from urinating. Sometimes, in trying to stop himself from urinating, the young child will do any of these:
- Squirm
- Squat
- Cross the legs
- Cup their genitals
- Hold the thighs together
Although wetting accidents are often considered part of growing up, this condition may adversely affect the child’s relationships with other children. He may be teased mercilessly and he may resolve not to play or make friends anymore. He may even refuse to go to school.
When these things happen, the parent must look into several home remedies to control wetting accidents. Or the child may be taken to a health professional for an examination. Once the cause has been identified, the pants wetting will eventually cease.
Sometimes, the pants wetting and wetting accidents indicate a medical problem. A parent must immediately bring the child to a doctor when any of these occur when the child accidentally wets his pants.
- Fever
- Pain in the stomach
- Pain during urination
- Cloudy or pink-colored urin
- Stains of blood found on the underclothe
- Frequent urination but only small amounts are release
- Along with pants wetting, there is also a leaking of stool
Whether the pants wetting is part of growing up or an indication of a medical disorder, this condition should be addressed as soon as possible. If pants wetting or wetting accidents continue towards the teenage years, the child’s confidence can be seriously demolished.
