Bed Wetter Home Remedies

Most of the bedwetting (Nocturnal Enuresis) cases among children are considered “primary” nocturnal enuresis. That is, the bedwetting occurrences are most probably part of the child’s growth and development. Adult bed wetting, on the other hand, is often considered as a secondary nocturnal enuresis. This means that this type of bedwetting is most probably due to a medical disorder, a physiological change, or an emotional stress. Adult bedwetting, then, can be considered a symptom.

This bedwetting symptom can be made worse when the adult does not practice what psychologists call “sleep hygiene” Sleep hygiene refers to suitable and beneficial sleeping habits. When an adult practices sleep hygiene, the occurrences of bedwetting may be reduced.

Here are a few simple home remedies for bed wetter’s as Bed Wetting Solutions. Let us know in the comments section if you find any of these useful.

  1. Avoid oversleeping

Many adults have the wrong assumption that if they get more sleep they will feel more refreshed. Unfortunately, the body does not work that way. The body will only feel rested and invigorated if it slept for the number of hours that it was supposed to sleep. This means that if the body needs only six hours of sleep, a seven-hour sleep will lead to a groggy feeling in the morning.

The best step that an adult can do is to figure out how much sleep his body needs. Then, once he has determined this, he will schedule his sleep accordingly, giving a 30-minute extra time. This extra time is the body’s window to “fall asleep”

  2. The bed is for sleeping

Some adults forget that the bed is for sleeping (and for having sex). These adults do all other kinds of stuff while they are on their beds, such as watching television, playing Nintendo games, budgeting money, talking to a friend on the phone, and reading a book. These activities send signals to the brain that the body need not sleep when it is on the bed.

  3. Avoid nightcaps

Alcoholic beverages, while considered by people to be healthful, can spell disaster for adults who have bed wetting disorders. Alcohol is a diuretic. That is, it encourages urine to flow. Aside from alcohol, the bed wetting adult must also stay away from cigarettes, coffee, and tea in the evening. If an adult needs to have alcohol, it must be taken at least six hours before bedtime.

  4. Engage in exercise

The exercise should be done in the afternoon and not in the evening. An afternoon, or even morning exercise can revitalize the body. An evening exercise, however, will make it difficult for an adult to fall asleep.

  5. Relax before sleeping

While some people immediately enter REM as soon as their heads hit the pillow, others need to relax and wind down. Reading a few paragraphs of a book can provide this. But remember not to read on the bed.

All the above essential concepts will help an adult reduce his bedwetting occurrences. If, after practicing all the above, the bedwetting frequency remains the same, the adult must again consult a doctor. There is a more serious medical problem that he must address.
